This prototype of the game has a build date of August 29th, 1994. It is one of three Virtua Racing Deluxe prototypes dumped by drx in 2008.

Final
At the main menu, the icons are all missing their pictures behind the text, and most of the visuals are different too. Highlighting Virtua Racing in the prototype has the V.R. text in a different color, and the car has different colors as well.

The background also has different colors.

Prototype
Final
The time attack image has the different colored car, and the stopwatch is in a different color as well. These things are closer to the screen than they are in the final.

Prototype
Final
The VS image has the text in a different color, along with the different cars again.

Prototype
Final
Highlighting the records option displays a bottle of wine, a trophy and a helmet in the prototype, whilst in the final, there's just a trophy.

Prototype
Final
The musical note is different in the prototype, and has a different color.

Prototype
Final
The options menu has a different background color in the prototype, and has the following differences:

-Whatever you have currently selected has yellow text, in the final it flashes instead.

-The BGM test lets you play the title logo, this was moved to the voice test in the final game.

-The final version lets you play the fasted lap music, this prototype doesn't.

-The SE test for pit work doesn't play anything.

-The voice test is missing several sounds, these being fastest lap, get goal, three, two and one.

Prototype
Final
The control config screen also different colors for the background. The font for what each button does is thinner in the prototype, for the final version made it bolder and easier to read.

Prototype
Final
The car select screen has some small differences. The car models are slightly different, in the final version the wheels for each car are a little more detailed. The prototype lacks the image of each car behind the text that the final has.

The transmission select has automatic aligned left and manual aligned right in the prototype, the final version centralized them both.

Prototype
Final
The circuit models on the course select screen are zoomed in are the prototype, and are far too close to the screen. They were moved back for the final version.

Prototype
Final
The ship ride near the end of the big forest course has some text on it in the prototype, which was removed from the final. It's difficult to read the text, it looks like "CS4" to me.

Prototype
Final
The bay bridge course lacks the virtua cows in the prototype that the final has. There's one in front of the windmill and another one behind it.

Prototype
Final
The arrows on the signboards are thinner in the prototype than they are in the final.

If you turn around here and head the wrong way, there's no black & yellow barrier. One was added in the final version.

Prototype

The billboard on the arcopolis course states 7th in the prototype. Changed to 32X for the final.

Whilst I'm here, the speedometer for the stock car is the same as what the formula has in the prototype. In the final version, it has a unique speedometer.

Prototype
Final
The highland course, being one of two new circuits for the 32X version, has a large number of differences in the prototype. It has come along some way since in the previous prototype, but a lot of the buildings are still different when compared to the final version.

Prototype
Final
Leading up to the first turn, one of the biggest differences is that this prototype features a quite tall building which was removed from the final version.

Note how the road lacks arrows in the prototype.

There's a gap here in the prototype which was covered up with a hill in the final version.

This part of the course doesn't have any trees in the prototype, and the cliff to the left is different. The final version adds some trees here and added grass to the top of the cliff.

There's no barrier here in the prototype, but there is an invisible wall that prevents you from going this way. A barrier was added for the final version.

Sand Park, the other new circuit for the 32X version, also has a lot of differences in the prototype. The starting straight lacks the billboard signs the final version has.

The building in the middle is also different. If you take the right path around this building, the prototype lacks some arrows at the front and back of it that the final has. It's also missing this rock formation around either side of the road leading up to the first turn.

The tunnel has some strange lines on the road which are colored blue, yellow and red. The final version removed all of these and replaced with with yellow arrows.

Prototype

This part lacks the SEGA text on the grass that the final version features.

After finishing a race, the best lap text was changed in the final version, making it slightly clearer to read.

Prototype

The results screens has your best time in blue in the prototype, whilst in the final, it's listed in red.

Also note how the car is listed as "Proto Type", this was changed to one word in the final game.

The above sound effects are all different between the prototype and final versions.

The final version used for these recordings is from the American game -some of these sounds were changed again when the Japanese version was released.

Notes

-You can't enter your initial after setting a fastest lap in the prototype, the final version has a separate screen for this. If you complete a race in 1st place, the prototype doesn't add a cup to the circuit's icon at the course select screen. This does happen in the final version, at least when playing on the normal or hard difficulty setting.

-Car damage hasn't been implemented in this prototype yet.

-The intro theme for the highland course uses the 2P versus theme in the prototype, in the final version the course has its own unique theme. Sand park uses bay bridge's intro theme, again, the final version has a unique theme.
