1999 saw the release of the Playstation version in Japan. The American and European versions were released early on in 2000. As usual there is no "true" tag team mode, but there is a mode that gives you a limited tag option -and like before, if you wanted to play that you had to have the same characters, such as Ryu & Venom Vs. Venom & Ryu. You also have a choice of either picking a secondary character or picking an assist character. If you choose a secondary character, then you can use cross over combos and duo team attacks. However the duo attacks in this version have changed -when you use them, instead of your partner jumping on, your get a clone of whoever your opponent is!
If you pick an assist character, you cannot use cross over combos. However there is no limit to the assist characters in this version, you can call them on
whenever you want. You can also use duo team attacks, but all that happens is that your assist character will repeatedly come onto the screen and use their attack until the duo team attack ends. This version has a couple of cool bonuses, including an art gallery and a ending collection where you can watch the ending to any character you've beaten the game with. Onslaught can also be played as, and you can permanently unlock the secret characters -see the secrets section for more info. "Dynamic mode" was a rather silly feature added to this version, where the camera will zoom in during air combos and throws, making the fighters look like pixilated blobs. Thankfully there is an option to turn this off.
The Playstation version is really only worth owning now if you only have an original Playstation -otherwise stick with the Dreamcast version.
