The SEGA Dreamcast version of Marvel Vs. Capcom was released in Japan and America in 1999, whilst the European version was released in 2000. This release proved that the Dreamcast was just as good at 2D as it was 3D, as it looked just like the arcade game and had all of the features from it. All of the characters, moves, animations and gameplay mechanics are in, and the load times are nonexistent.
Bonuses in this version include ways to permanently unlock the secret characters, along with a unlockable mode which lets you play as Onslaught. By far the best extra is the four player "Cross Fever" mode -the fights are still the 2 on 2 tag battles, but each player gets to control a separate character. The hyper combo gauge will keep filling automatically in this mode, meaning you can use duo team attacks far more frequently! There are also survival and training modes.
This was the best version of the game until the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions came along. But as those have now been delisted, the Dreamcast version is again currently the best console version of the game you can buy. The American version was also one of the best-selling Dreamcast games and was later re-released as part of the "SEGA All Stars" budget line.
