Can you play as the bosses?
In the arcade version, no, basically. Without resorting to hacking into the game it is impossible to play as either Juggernaut or Magneto, there are no codes to unlock them. With a little hacking it is possible to play as them, but beating arcade mode with them crashes the game.

Interestingly, in the USA 3.00 version of the game, Juggernaut and Magneto have alternate colors if you use cheats and get both players to select the bosses. The alt colors are not in any previous version, instead both players will use the same colors. The alt colors are not in the Japanese 3.00 version either. This seems to hint someone at Capcom USA intended to make the bosses playable, but the idea fell through.
The Japanese SEGA Saturn port has a cheat that lets you play as Juggernaut in versus mode only. You can use Juggernaut or Magneto in single player by using a cheat device like a Action Replay cartridge, but the game will crash if you finish the game with Magneto. Finish the game with Juggernaut will display Akuma's ending for some reason. The Playstation port lets you play as both bosses, but only in versus mode.
Is it true that some of the voice actors from the TV series voice their characters in this game?
Yes. Cathal J. Dodd (Wolverine) and Norman Spencer (Cyclops) both provide the voices for their characters in Children of the Atom.
Some more trivia: Catherine Disher, who voiced Jean Gray in the cartoon, voices Psylocke, Spiral and Storm in the game. Dan Hennessey, who was the voice director for the cartoon (and provided Ruckus' voice) voices Colossus, Iceman and Sentinel in the game.
One thing that has always confused me: in the voice actor's credits, George Buza is listed. George voiced Beast in the cartoon, but Beast never appears in the game. Cesar Peradilla e-mailed me to state that he voices the game's announcer.
Akuma makes random noises whenever I do any of his moves!
Akuma hadn't got his own voice actor yet -instead, he shares some of the grunts from Omega Red, Wolverine, Silver Samurai and Juggernaut. Akuma would eventually have a unique voice when Street Fighter Alpha was released, provided by Tomomichi Nishimura.
I'm playing the Playstation version and I'm not seeing the full endings?
The Playstation port does not have the full endings. The ending sequences for the Playstation port will cut after Avalon explodes. The reason for this is presumably because of disc space -the ending sequences on the Playstation port are FMVs, so to fit them on the disc the developers had to cut them down.
Who are those 4 guys who drop down to get Magneto in every ending?
They are some of the Acolytes. In the comics the Acolytes follow Magneto, but here they are shown restraining him. The man who grabs Magneto is Exodus. The two guys with guns are Harlan Kleinstock and Sven Kleinstock. Finally the big guy at the back is Delgado. For more information on the Acolytes, click here.
Are there any regional differences?
The screen above -which appears just before the game's attract mode sequence begins -only seems to appear in the Japanese version of the game, it was cut out of all other versions. But aside from that and the obvious like the kanji being translated, there don't appear to be any major changes. The American version has one of those screens advising for people to recycle, plus another warning screen saying that the game contains animated violence -mild. Generally a lot of Capcom's arcade games for the USA have these screens, so I won't bother mentioning them for the other titles featured on this shrine.
Akuma is known as Gouki in Japan, but given that he isn't even named in the game it doesn't really matter.
What is with the revisions?
There are 5 known revisions of the game: versions 1.00, 2.00, 2.10, 2.20 and 3.00. 3.00 is the only version of the game released in American and European arcades, the rest are Japanese exclusives. Revisions usually just fix up bugs and glitches. However, version 1.00 actually has some differences in it, which you can find more about here. The console/PC ports of Children of the Atom are all based on version 3.00.
