I owned PC Engine Duo-R console. This model is a combined card and CD unit. I also owned an arcade card, which is required to play any of Neo Geo ports.

Playthrough of the arcade mode on medium difficulty. This mode is endless, so it's just a case of holding out as long as possible. The jewel's drop speed ramps up really quickly so to me staying in the game for more than five minutes is good enough for me. |

Playthrough with Ryu. This game is even harder than the arcade version, because somehow they managed to make the controls even worse -it's even more difficult to pull off special moves, which for most opponents are the only way you can beat them. There are a couple of strategies that can also work, such as doing nothing but crouching roundhouse kicks against Eagle, or hiding in the corner against Adon, but for most opponents you want to be hitting them with fireballs or dragon punches. The PC Engine controller really sucks in this regard, as not only are the moves nearly impossible to perform, it also really hurt my thumb trying to use that tiny d-pad. I still don't know why they changed the name from Street Fighter to Fighting Street. |

Playthrough with Terry Bogard. This game is known as Fatal Fury 2 in America, but the PC Engine version was only released in Japan. As mentioned on the Neo Geo CD page, this game has an average difficulty level until you get to to the bosses. I've since learnt a tactic to beat Billy by using the light punch version of Terry's power wave move. Krauser can usually be taken out with rising tackle spam. |

Playthrough with Mai Shiranui. This is a good port of the Neo Geo version, unfortunately the high difficulty level was also ported with it. I think this is one of SNK's toughest games, but Mai has a few tricks that makes things a little easier. Her backdash sends her back quite a bit, and several opponents fall for a simple tactic where you throw a fan at them, and then hit them with a ryu en bu when they jump towards you. There are a few other strats on certain characters that make it easy to win (Geese is really simple to beat with Mai) but it's still pretty tough -I really think you shouldn't have to fight every character in the game, it goes on for too long. This playthrough also shows the hidden boss, Ryo Sakazaki. To get him to appear you need to beat the game without losing any rounds. |

I've always found OutRun to be a much harder game than most people let on. If you have one major crash I don't think you'll have enough time to finish the course. The answer to that is to not crash, but you can't go too slow or you'll run out of time, and there's a lot of traffic to get around. At least the PC Engine isn't as hectic as other versions traffic wise. One annoyance with this version are the controls. Up and down serve as the gear change, but I found myself accidentally changing gears a lot when all I wanted to do was turn left or right. I think this port could have done with an automatic gears setting. |

Playthrough with Ryo Sakazaki. This game is a little random in terms of difficulty as your opponents can sometimes be push-overs and other times completely destroy you. The final 2 bosses in particular are really tough. For Mr. Big you can just hold back like in the Neo Geo version, although there is a difference in this port -Big will stand in place and attack, so you can try and win via time over. This game is called Art of Fighting in America, although once again, the PC Engine version was only released in Japan. Despite only being released in Japan, this port has an English language option, which I turn on. |

Playthrough with Ken, on the hardest difficulty level. The early 90's console ports of Street Fighter II always seemed to be easier than the arcade games, but they can still be tricky in places. I think the hardest thing about this port though is the controller -the PC Engine controllers have small d-pads which hurt my thumb after extended use. |

Playthrough of the death match mode with Dragon. This game is really hard and I can't beat it on the standard arcade mode. In death match mode most of the levels have hazards on them, using these can really help with beating the CPU. You can beat the final boss just by using nothing but Dragon's multi-punch special move, the boss doesn't know how to deal with it and will often just stand there. As long as you have the life lead, you can win via time over. |
