Jack Tenrec is the main character of the Cadillacs and Dinosaurs series. He runs his own garage and is very good at restoring Cadillacs. He apparently also has his own pet Allosaurus, which he raised himself, and is the ultimate guard dog, although this Allosaurus is never shown in the game at all.
Jack is probably the best character overall. He is pretty much average in the three main categories (power, speed and skill) although he's slightly better at attacking than he is at running.

COMBO
Press the attack button rapidly when close to an opponent.
DASH ATTACK
Whilst running, press the attack button. Jack's slide will knock over enemies.
FLYING KICK
Whilst in a jump, press the attack button.
GRAB ATTACK
Grab the opponent and then press the attack button three times. Jack will punch the opponent in the head, and then twice in the stomach.
THROW
Grab the opponent, hold a direction and then press the attack button to throw them.
UPWARDS KICK
Press down, up and then attack to do Jack's weird kick attack.
HOMING KICK
Whilst jumping, hold the direction down right and then press the attack button to make Jack do a diving kick.
SPECIAL ATTACK: DINO UPPERCUT
Press the attack and jump buttons together, but this will cost a little energy each time Jack does it (if it hits the opponent).
TEAM MOVE: RUNNING CHARGE
Overlap the other player a few seconds, and you'll send them dashing forward.
Hannah Dundee is Jack's love interest and she also helps him out at his garage. Like so many female playable characters in scrolling beat 'em ups, Hannah has poor attacking power, but is one of the fastest characters in the game. She also has the advantage of being "item skilled" and can do more damage with weapons. Another point is that Hannah can throw enemies higher than other characters, meaning they will be thrown further away from you, which can be advantageous.

Grab the opponent, hold a direction and then press the attack button. Hannah will throw the opponent over her shoulder.
ROLLING ELBOW SMASH
Press down, up and then attack. Hannah will roll across the screen (this can damage enemies) and then elbow smash the opponent.
HOMING KICK
Whilst jumping, hold the direction down right and then press the attack button to make Hannah do a diving kick.
SPECIAL ATTACK: SPIRAL SMASH
Press the attack and jump buttons together, but this will cost a little energy each time Hannah does it (if it hits the opponent).
TEAM MOVE: FLYING LEAP
Overlap the other player a few seconds, and you'll pick them all and throw them high into the air.
Mustapha Cairo is one of Jack's friends and when he hears that dinosaurs are attacking people, he goes to Jack for help. He then decides to help Jack out in fighting the poachers. Mustapha is the fastest character in the game, and surprisingly, this doesn't make him the weakest. In fact, he's on a similar level of effectiveness as Jack, and his dash attack is the best in the game. He's a bad mamba jamma!

Overlap the other player a few seconds, and Mustapha will hurl them through the air as a cannonball.
Mess O'Bradovich is a character nobody really knows about. His in-game bio simply states "mystery", but he seems to at least know Mustapha and helps him, Jack and Hannah in the fight. Mess is the Mike Haggar of Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, and despite being slow (he can still run though so it isn't as bad as you think) he is the most powerful playable character in the game. Make good use of his throws as these are his most powerful attacks.

Grab the opponent, hold the direction away from them and then press the attack button to make Mess suplex them.
ROLLING JUMP ATTACK
Press down, up and then the attack button. Mess will leap up and go from a jumping punch to a butt drop attack.
BUTT DROP
Whilst jumping, hold the direction down right and then press the attack button.
FLYING SUPER PUNCH
Whilst running, press the jump button and then the attack button to make Mess fly across the screen and punch the enemies.
