There are two scripts available for this episode, and they can both be read at the Sunbow and Marvel Productions Script/Storyboard Archive. The original script was written by Douglas Booth on 6/15/84. There is then also a revised script, with dialogue updates from Ron Friedman which was done on 6/26/84.

The majority of the changes made for the revised script are what were used in the episode, but some lines were further altered.

ACT 1
ACT 2
ACT 3

The first page of the revised script has this rather large note that points out that Billy has been renamed Chip. The original script always refers to him as Billy, whilst the revised one has most cases of "Billy" crossed out and replaced with "Chip".

ACT 1

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

In the original script, Soundwave was meant to have a line here, but the revised script got rid of it and replaced it with a new line for Thundercracker... which then didn't matter as the line was cut from the episode.

The original script stated for Starscream to almost hit Soundwave here, but the revised script wanted to change Soundwave for Thundercracker. However, the animation still shows Soundwave. The shot of Soundwave raising his fist in annoyance wasn't scripted.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

This dialogue isn't heard in the episode.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

This dialogue also isn't heard, instead, Starscream gets a new line: "I am the new leader of the Decepticons".

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

More dialogue that was revised, but cut from the finished episode.

The script wanted part of the plant to be open at one end like a hangar, but this isn't shown in the episode.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

As noted above, the script wanted one end of the plant to be open, and the Decepticons would just fly straight in without having to break anything. The animation, however, just has Starscream fly in here, as he smashes through a window to get inside.

The script calls for Soundwave to create energon cubes the usual way here (as seen previously in this episode). However the animation has a cube just pop out of Soundwave's chest, with his chest door open.

The script also wanted some cars to drive away from the plant, but the animation doesn't show any. You just see a few workers running outside and that's it. The script also wanted Brawn to be shown behind Prime, but in the episode you only see Prime.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

OPTIMUS
Conflict zone ahead.

The script wanted Prowl to be among the Autobots for this shot, but he's not seen, and is instead replaced with Cliffjumper.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

The script wanted Bluestreak and Prowl to skid into the plant, but the animation shows Cliffjumper and Brawn instead. The Autobots are already inside the plant when the shot cuts to them, they aren't seen moving at all.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

Bluestreak's revised line here was given to Cliffjumper in the episode.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

This leads into one of the big changes the revised script made -Bluestreak was originally going to fight here, but was replaced with Cliffjumper.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

Perhaps the original writer confused Bluestreak with Cliffjumper, as the script notes that Bluestreak is "smaller" than Brawn, which isn't the case. Again, whilst even the revised script has Bluestreak talking here, in the episode it's Cliffjumper.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT
EPISODE DIALOGUE

THUNDERCRACKER
It sure is!

The script wanted Bluestreak to hang onto the end of the pipe, but the animation has Cliffjumper get sent flying back without hanging onto it. That's because...

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

...there was supposed to be this scripted sequence following it, which was cut from the episode.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

The above sequence was mostly cut from the episode. Everything after Bluestreak's "Sure thing, Brawn" line doesn't happen. In the episode, Cliffjumper says "Sure thing, Brawn".

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

Most of the revised dialogue was used in the episode, the only difference is that Prime calls out to Cliffjumper instead of Bluestreak.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

Another sequence that was cut from the episode.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

Soundwave's line here was cut. The script also has no mention of Soundwave having to run through a net and break it, which is what the episode shows.

The script wanted both Prowl and Bluestreak to bash into Soundwave, but the animation only shows Bluestreak doing it.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

This was cut from the episode, but as the earlier scripted sequence of Thundercracker falling into the river was also cut, it's no surprise.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

This dialogue was scripted to happen right after Thundercracker regroups with the other two Decepticons. In the finished episode, it was moved back to a little later on, but only the "Some leader you turned out to be, Starscream!" is heard.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

This line was cut from the episode.

Megatron's first line here is nearly the same as what's heard in the episode, but he adds a "two" between "You" and "look". He was supposed to get another line which Ron revised to "and sat on your data banks!", but then this was also crossed out and isn't heard in the episode.

Ron also changed this line to "You're still operational!", but then crossed it out and changed it back to "You're still alive!" which is what it was in the original script.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

Megatron's revised line was mostly used in the episode other than "nano" being swapped out for "astro".

As with the previous episode, what's scripted with the space bridge looks nothing like what's shown in the animation.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

The script calls for Rumble to be setting up the space bridge on Earth, but this isn't shown in the episode. When we cut back to Earth, the space bridge is already there.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

Laserbeak was originally supposed to talk during this scene! It appears the writer didn't realize he can't speak, and in the revised script, his dialogue is all crossed out.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT

RUMBLE
Megatron, I've got news for ya. Reflector will be back soon with the lab report.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

This revised script changed part of this line to "As soon as I have programmed his findings, we attack", but this was then crossed out. Megatron only says "Excellent!" in the episode.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

In the episode, the guard has some additional dialogue not in the script. He says "Hi Chip! Welcome back!" This dialogue appears to have been done by two different voice actors -one says "Hi Chip!", and another says "Welcome back!".

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

In the episode, Bumblebee says "No kind words for me?", but in the revised script, he had an additional line here which was then crossed out: "What are you, anti-robotic?"

In the revised script, the guards reply was going to be "No, it's just I've never met an Autobot before" as a response to Bumblebee's deleted anti-robotic line. But the guards line got rid of the "No, it's just" and replaced it with "wow" which is what is was in the original script.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT

The above sequence was cut from the episode. Reflector can still just about be seen...

MEGATRON (CONT)
We must attack the laboratory now!

The revised script had Ron try to change this line to something else, but he then crossed it out and changed it back to what was in the original script. However the line is still slightly different in the actual episode.

The script calls for Chip to be in the open door of his home, but the animation goes beyond the call of duty by showing Chip get out of Bumblebee.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT

The revised script's line here is almost what's used in the episode, other than Chip saying "lab" instead of laboratory. It seems the line was originally going to mention "Decepticon attack" but this was crossed out.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT

This line was cut.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

This revised line, which is still spoken in the episode, is referring to the script, which had Thundercracker take out Bluestreak in the plant. However, as the animation was changed to him taking out Cliffjumper instead, this line doesn't really make much sense for him to say to Bluestreak any more. Crossed out on the revised script is "Roll off, short wheels!".

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

Starscream doesn't laugh before saying the revised line.

The first act ends slightly different to what was scripted. The script states to only show Skywarp, Reflector and Starscream -it seems the animators caught on to the fact that Reflector shouldn't be there, as they put Soundwave in instead (Ravage was also added, although that's ok as he did get sent out by Soundwave seconds before). Starscream's line was crossed out on the revised script and replaced with nothing.

What happens next in the episode is that Starscream yells "FIRE!" as he and the others attack. Prowl is shown getting hit, and Ravage is shown being pounced on by Ravage. These things are in the script, but they don't happen until early on into the second act.

ACT 2

Megatron isn't shown pointing, and his line here was cut.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

Ron tried to change these lines, but then crossed out what he put and put something else instead. It looks like originally he put "Within lies the anti-matter formula" for the first line, and "will be ours" instead of "is almost mine" for the second. Guess he wanted to make Megatron sound he cared more for himself than the Decepticons.

Megatron is supposed to give "evil laughter" here, but it in the episode it more sounds like Rumble... however his voice isn't electronically modulated, making him sound like some old guy. The script does state it should be Megatron laughing.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

This was cut from the episode. It was supposed to happen before Reflector is seen putting in the code for the security doors.

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

The original script has "Alvarez" instead of "Alcazar", perhaps that was an earlier name for him. The revised script doesn't correct it, but the episode dialogue does have Chip say "Alcazar".

ORIGINAL SCRIPT
REVISED SCRIPT

The above was cut from the episode. In the script, what happens right after this cut sequence is the scene where the Decepticons fire on Prowl and Bluestreak, where Prowl gets hit and Ravage attacks Bluestreak. In the episode, this stuff was moved forwards to end the first act.

This line was cut -Chip does say it in the episode, but the revised script had him say it twice, in the episode he only says it once.

The episode alters this sequence so the explosion is shown before Alcazar says his line, the script has it happen after (which makes more sense). In the original script, Alcazar was supposed to say "oh no!", but the revised script crosses this out. Finally, you can't see Chip's message on the screen.

The script wanted to use Reflector here, but the animation shows Soundwave instead.

The script says that the second set of missiles should be shown firing off the jet's left wing, but the animation shows the right wing -using the same bit of animation seen earlier -seems the animators forgot to mirror it.
