Synopsis

At the Hellsing HQ, doctors begin to operate on Integra. Alucard and Seras can only watch. Alucard tells Seras to pay close attention and watch how Integra fares in battle. Integra is dreaming about her past, reliving the time she spoke to her father about how dangerous the vampires are. Her father told her that it is the mission of their family to protect the Queen, Great Britain and the Church of England from these fearful creatures.

Integra then recalls the time that her father, who was dying, made her the head of the Hellsing family. Shortly after his death, his brother Richard plotted to kill Integra. He had waited 20 years for his brother to die, only for Integra to be made head of the family. Integra recalled her father telling her about a secret protector in the forgotten prison. Integra went to the prison, but was found by Richard and his men. Integra opened the door to the prison cell and jumped down.

As she jumped, Integra was shot at, with the bullet grazing her shoulder. Richard is about to finish her off when they all noticed that there is a man inside the cell, who is licking up Integra's spilt blood. Not knowing who he is or what he's doing, Richard orders for him to be killed, but the man quickly kills all of Richard's men and severs one of Richard's arms.

The man then confronts Integra. She shoots at him, but her bullets don't cause any damage. He tells her to give up, but she refuses, saying she'd rather die than obey a vampire. The man laughs and suddenly bows down, asking his master to give him her orders. Richard manages to pick up another gun and fires at Integra, but the bullet is stopped by Alucard. Integra aims her gun at Richard and asks for the man's name. He says it's Alucard. Back in the present, Integra wakes up, her operation being successful.

Elsewhere, Incognito releases his dark energy. Several crystals burst out of the ground, each one containing a captured SAS member. Incognito shoots the crystals, as the SAS members fall out and are now under Incognito's control. As they all bow before their master, Incognito screams out Alucard's name.

Manga Differences

-Much of this episode does not happen in the manga, however the story of Integra's past is in it. In the manga, the scene where Integra and her father discuss the vampire's power happens several chapters after the part where Richard chases her down. In the anime these happen the other way around.

-In the manga, Walter is present during the lesson. He's not there in the anime.

-In the anime, Richard, a doctor and several other men are around Integra's father as he's in bed. In the anime, it's just Richard and Walter.

-The part where Richard talks about waiting for 20 years for his brother to die takes place in a corridor in the manga. In the anime, it's in what will become Integra's office.

-In the manga, Integra gets to Alucard's cell and enters it before Richard gets there. In the anime, Richard finds her before she enters the cell.

-The manga has a part the anime cut out: when Integra sees Alucard's corpse, she wonders how this is supposed to protect her. She ends up sitting next to him and joking if he minds sharing his cell with her.

-In the manga, Richard punches Integra, whilst in the anime, he fires a shot which grazes her face.

-Two of Richard's men examine Alucard's corpse in the manga, they don't do this in the anime.

-In the anime, Alucard confronts Integra and makes it look like he's going to hurt her, until she defies him and says she'd rather die. The manga does not have this, instead Alucard instantly bows before her and asks what her orders are.

-In the manga, Integra's flashback scene takes placed between the equivalent of episodes 1 and 2 of the anime.

Notes

-During the lesson, a picture of someone who is possibly Integra's mother is seen. Her face is obscured and she never gets mentioned in the series. She doesn't appear at all in the manga.

-At the end of the credits, there is a shot of Alucard's sunglasses. One of three characters can be seen in them in each episode: Alucard, Seras or Integra. In this episode, Alucard is seen.
