The Airbots have been doing a routine patrol of the Earth in a ship and report to Ultra Magnus that they are retuning home to Cybertron City. But suddenly they see a large meteorite which appears to be heading straight for them. They evade it, but as it passes by them it blasts them with some kind of projectile which twists them and their ship until they are out of range.
Ultra Magnus sees this and has the Techbots sent out to help them whilst he contacts Cybertron HQ on Athenia. On Jaar it's revealed that the meteorite is something that the Destrons have created, and Galvatron states that it is set on a collision course with the Cybertron HQ on Athenia. Once it hits, the HQ will be completely destroyed and the Cybertrons can do nothing about it. Weirdwolf sees that the Techbots have been sent on a rescue mission so Galvatron sends a Destron squad led by Cyclonus to stop them.
The Techbots are moving out when Cyclonus appears and shoots at them. He reveals the meteorite to be a Destron creation to them, and then also reveals that the Terrortrons are with him. A battle starts between the two sides.
Having received the message from Ultra Magnus, Rodimus Convoy sends Fortress and the Cybertron Headmasters to stop the meteorite. Fortress takes his ship and follows the meteorite, and tries to destroy it by firing the ship's laser cannons...
...but the blasts have no effect on the target at all, and rebound off it. Highbrow reveals that the lasers are been warped around the meteorite and it can somehow divert them. The Cybertrons find out that the meteorite is heading straight for their Athenia base, and Fortress reports this. Rodimus calls Fortress back so they can think up another way of stopping it. Meanwhile Galvatron and the Destron Headmasters arrive on Earth and meet up with Scourge and the Sweeps. Scourge explains that Cyclonus has stopped the Techbots from advancing. Galvatron tells them that they must not let the Cybertrons reach the meteorite, which he refers to as "Metamorphose".
Just then the Throttlebots appear and attack, but Galvatron has the Destron Headmasters fight back. As they seemingly easily defeat the Throttlebots, Galvatron orders Scourge to follow him, as they will go and assist Cyclonus.
They arrive at the battle, which briefly stops. Galvatron explains that the Cybertron's resistance is futile, as Metamorphose will soon destroy them all. Fortress then appears in his ship, saying they won't let Galvatron do this, but then the Destron Headmasters show up and tell Galvatron that they've defeated the Throttlebots. Galvatron decides to hold a welcome party for the new Cybertron arrivals...
...as the battle resumes. The Techbots and Terrortrons unite into their super robot forms, whilst the Headmasters fight each other.
Meanwhile, a Cybertron ship has taken off from Earth, and the Throttlebots are on it. They pretended to lose against the Destron Headmasters, as doing so has given them a clear chance to go out and stop the meteorite. A warning message from Athenia stating for them not to go out is ignored, as the Throttlebots seek fame by doing this. Wide Load and Chase head out, but they and the ship get warped as the meteorite passes by them.
Rodimus has seen everything and can't believe the Throttlebots went out against his orders. He tells Chear to tell all Cybertrons that such insubordination will not be tolerated, as they could be risking their lives doing stuff like this. The Cybertrons come to the conclusion that a Transformer simply cannot get close to this meteorite, and that the meteorite itself must not be of natural origin. Since no Transformer can get close, Daniel suggests sending Captain Marissa Faireborn from the Earth Defense Force, but Wheelie says that they are too busy at the moment and instead suggests that Daniel could go instead. However Rodimus says they can't just send a child, and Daniel doesn't seem keen on the idea either. However...
...Spike is injured at the moment. Daniel goes and tells him about how the Throttlebots have just failed to stop the meteorite and Spike says that he must go and stop it, even though he is injured. Spike and Carly try to stop him from going, but he says that he must and goes into the main room where he tells Rodimus and the others of his plans. Rodimus says that he can't go in his present condition, but then Daniel appears...
..and says that he'll go instead. The Cybertrons ask if he means it and Daniel says he has to go this time. Spike lets him as he really is not fit enough to move around much, never mind fly through space. This is decided just in time, as the meteorite is getting dangerously close to Athenia.
On Earth the fight between the Cybertrons and Destrons continues until Rodimus orders Fortress to return to Athenia. The Cybertron Headmasters go back onboard the ship and despite the efforts of Galvatron and his cronies they get away, thanks to the ship's cannons.
The Destrons follow, and despite Computicon's best efforts at shooting them down, they managed to fly after the Cybertrons whilst returning fire. Meanwhile, back on Athenia, Daniel is suited up in an old space suit.
Spike explains that he can't wear the traditional exo-suit as if he did he would end up mangled if he got close to the meteorite, so this is all they can give him instead. Spike goes on to tell Daniel what he must do: Fortress will take him as close as he can to the meteorite, and then Daniel must jump from the ship and land on the meteorite itself, and from there he must destroy the gravity emitter controls, and gives him an explosive. A little later, Fortress arrives on Athenia, and takes Daniel and Wheelie with him as the ship takes off. It is soon back in space.
The Cybertrons are soon within close range of the meteorite, but then they notice four Destrons approaching. Determined to not let the Cybertrons destroy the meteorite, Galvatron has flown from Earth to stop Fortress. Chromedome and the other Headmasters leave the ship to fight the Destrons whilst Fortress keeps on going to get closer.
Fortress then hears something and turns to see Daniel whimpering, before he suddenly starts crying! The boy has suddenly decided that he's too scared and too much of a coward to go! Fortress takes immediate action...
...by pulling a series of funny faces. None of which Daniel finds funny, but Fortress keeps trying.
It takes a few more tries, but eventually Fortress' faces make Daniel stop crying and start laughing. Fortress says that he'll have to go instead of Daniel, knowing full well he'll get twisted up, but then Daniel says he'll be a man and will go and do it after all.
With the meteorite in range of the ship, Daniel is pushed out of the airlock by Wheelie and he successfully lands on target. Fortress keeps in radio contact and tells him that the sensors he needs to destroy are inside the meteorite. As Daniel explores on the surface a gun turret pops up and blasts him with the twisting spray...
...but of course, it doesn't effect him. As the turret retreats Daniel jumps down and ends up inside the meteorite. He starts looking around the control room, but cannot find how to disable the gravity emitters using the controls. So instead, he decides to just plant the explosive on the gravity emitter itself.
Daniel gets off the meteorite and it explodes seconds later. The Cybertrons and Destrons see the explosion, and Highbrow realises that Daniel has done it -Galvatron's scheme has been ended by a child.
With his plan in ruins, Galvatron orders the Destrons to retreat, leaving the Cybertrons to return home to Athenia and celebrate Daniel's success.
NOTES
This episode is the only one to mention Marissa Faireborn, she never actually appears in the series itself.
The shuttle the Airbots are seen in at the start is the same as part of the shuttles used by the Cybertrons in Transformers: The Movie -the question is, where is the other half of it?
The shuttle the Throttlebots use are also seen in Transformers: The Movie, such as when Spike and Bumble try and escape from Moon Base 2 in one.
If Daniel was being such a wimp, why didn't Carly volunteer to go?
The Throttlebots won't be seen in the series again for quite some time.
This episode is one of only two in the entire series that feature the Sweeps.
