The Cybertron and Destron Headmasters engage in battle. As this goes on it is watched by Daniel and the Cybertrons. Daniel is glad that these new warriors are on their side.
Outside the Vector Sigma entrance Galvatron tries to break through, but a group of Cybertrons led by Convoy fend him off. He transforms into cannon mode and starts shooting at Convoy, but then has to back off when Rodimus shoots at him. Meister and the other Dinobots continue firing.
Convoy tells Rodimus to take over whilst he goes to try and fix the super computer. Nearby, Bruticus, Menasor, Devastor and Abominus and firing on Superion, Guardian and Raiden and make the Cybertrons take cover. But before they can do anything else, Battleship Maximus appears and starts to chase after them whilst firing.
The ship shoots down the large Destrons, so Galvatron transforms and starts shooting at it. The ship blasts him also and he transforms back into robot mode and orders for the Destrons to withdraw. Rodimus invites the new warriors to Athenia and they arrive in their ship. As the door opens, the leader of the Cybertron Headmasters steps out.
FORTRESS
Fortress introduces himself and Chear recognises him -Fortress remembers who Chear is, although it has been a very long time since the two of them have seen each other. Fortress explains that four million years a go, there was heavy fighting on Cybertron. He and a group of other robots got together and left the planet, searching for a new home to live on. They eventually found a planet called...
MASTER
Spending thousands of years building cities, the smaller robots developed a unique transforming process where they transform into a head and attach to the body of a normal Transformer sized body, giving them greater amounts of power.
Fortress goes on to explain that a group of evil Transformers rose up against them, led by a Destron called Scorponok. Fortress and the Cybertron Headmasters fought against them and exiled them from Master, but they went on a rampage across the universe, attacking other planets. Fortress and his troops followed them, and now their enemies have joined up with Galvatron so they're here to help the Cybertrons.
Back on Cybertron, Convoy is fighting through Vector Sigma's Centurion robots and after beating down a group of them, the spirit of Alpha Trion appears. The narrator reminds us that Alpha Trion was the one who built Convoy.
In the Athenia Cybertron base, Fortress learns about how Convoy has gone to Vector Sigma without the Matrix of Leadership. Rodimus says that the Matrix is recharging somewhere on Earth, but only Convoy knows where it is. Rodimus tries to contact Convoy but is unsuccessful.
Back on Cybertron, Convoy continues to make his way to Vector Sigma, and the spirit of Alpha Trion helps him get past some of the traps down there.
Using the space bridge, Rodimus and Broadcast arrive at Cybertron city, where Ultra Magnus greets them. Magnus tells Meister to bring up the possible Matrix locations on a computer screen. Before Meister does that, Broadcast says that there is an intruder in the room.
Broadcast looks around and finds Ratbat! The Destron transforms from tape to bat and flies off. Broadcast sends Steeljaw out after him, who runs into another room and is attacked by Ravage. Broadcast sends Amhorn, Rewind and Eject to help Steeljaw, only for Soundwave to pop up and start firing on them all.
Broadcast runs in to back them up, but Soundwave uses a smoke bomb and promptly vanishes, but not before warning Blaster that sometime he'll get him. He returns to the Destron Earth base to report his findings.
Sixshot reports the info Soundwave found out to Galvatron, and tells him that Rodimus is on Earth, and seems to be on some important mission. Galvatron tells them to find out what this mission is. Back Cybertron City, Meister has the main Matrix location points put up on a screen and Rodimus decides that they need to start searching through them all in an attempt to find the Matrix, so he and Broadcast head out. Ultra Magnus says he'll try and confuse the Destrons and has the Airbots sent out to a Destron energon reserve in a desert.
And sure enough, the Airbots deliberately let themselves be picked up by enemy sensors, so Sixshot sends out the Stuntrons. The two teams fight each other whilst...
...Rodimus and Broadcast search the North Pole for the Matrix. Soundwave reports to Galvatron about the Airbot diversionary tactic, and that Rodimus has gone to the North Pole. Galvatron tells him to take himself and the Stuntrons there as well and destroy Rodimus. Back in the North Pole Rodimus says that the Matrix cannot be here as he isn't picking up any readings for it, so he and Broadcast start to head back, only to find the Animatrons in wait.
Broadcast deploys all four of his cassette robots and a fight begins. The Animatrons prove to not be powerful enough so they try to transform into Predaking, only for Rodimus to drive straight into them and prevent them from merging.
The Animatrons give chase as he heads away, just as Menasor shows up. Menasor grabs Rodimus, only to drop him when Superion arrives and charges into him.
Rodimus ends up in a clearing where Soundwave sends his cassettes to distract him whilst he takes aim, only for Broadcast to show up and take the hit instead. Broadcast tells Rodimus to leave whilst he and Soundwave settle things once and for all.
The two start to battle, blasting each other repeatedly until they both fall. They ditch their weapons and go into hand to hand combat, as they smash each other's chests. Rodimus turns around and notices Broadcast is in trouble, and starts to run back to him.
Broadcast hits Soundwave so hard that one of Soundwave's arms breaks off. Soundwave gets up and just charges straight into his opponent, smashing him into a cliff. As Soundwave drops down, Broadcast also does and hits Soundwave in the chest for a second time.
Broadcast falls, but as Soundwave gets up, he explodes. Rodimus makes it to Broadcast, but Broadcast collapses and tells Rodimus to forget about him and to quickly go and find the Matrix, and Convoy. Broadcast then dies, as Rodimus says his death will not be in vain.
Condor, Buzzsaw and Ratbat appear, as Condor grabs Soundwave's head whilst Buzzsaw and Ratbat pick up Rumble and Frenzy. As they fly away, word reaches Athenia of Broadcast's demise. Chromedome says they will help Rodimus, and he, Hardhead, Brainstorm and Highbrow head to Earth.
On Cybertron, Convoy continues to make his way towards Vector Sigma as Rodimus tells Convoy to take care. He transforms and rolls out as the narrator says that Rodimus has to hurry -Convoy is in great danger.
NOTES
In season 3 it wasn't clear if the Destrons had an Earth base or not, but in The Headmasters they have got one, and it is shown for the first time in this episode.
Raiden, the combined form of the Trainbots, debuts in this episode, but it is more of a cameo as he's in the background and is forced to retreat when Bruticus blows up some scenery. He's to the left of the shot.
