Supreme Warrior

Released in 1995
Available in
Genre: Fighting

Another game from Digital Pictures, Supreme Warrior is an enhanced port of the SEGA CD version. It features a larger video window, however there are still a lot of issues with the video quality, with everything getting blocky.

And as for the game itself, this is about on level with Slam City in terms of playability. At least you have some kind of way to tell what you're supposed to do in this, but even then the controls never seem responsive enough and it seems a little bit unreasonable in how much time you have to press the right buttons. Fighting game fans would be better off purchasing Virtua Fighter.

Info

Fang Tu, an evil warlord, has one half of a mask. He seeks the other half so he can complete the mask and take the untold power it is said to contain. You happen to have the other half, and travel to a village that Fang Tu has attacked. Fang Tu has set a time limit for the other half to be given to him, or he'll kill the villagers. With Master Kai too old to fight and his best warrior, Yu Ching, injured, it lies with you to defeat Fang Tu's minions and then battle Fang Tu himself in a final battle.

Fighting consists of watching what your opponent does and then reacting to it. On the apprentice and master modes, on-screen prompts will briefly appear, letting you know when to attack. Attacks and done by holding a direction on the d-pad and then press either the A or C buttons. The B button is used for blocking, but you'll have to hold the correct direction on the d-pad to properly block an attack. You and your opponent have a life bar each. There is a stone on this life bar, once it reaches the bottom of the red part of the bar, your opponent will fall down. You'll have to knock down your opponent several times to defeat them.

Above your life bar is another bar that fills up and decreases as you fight. This bar is for how fast your attacks are, every time you attack, the bar will decease. It will gradually fill up again as the fight goes on. You will do more damage to your opponent if you hit them when this bar is full.

As you progress you can earn skills and techniques by defeating your enemies. These give you some new attacks, but will also give you techniques that have temporary effects, such making your moves do more damage. To use these skills you must hold a direction on the d-pad and then press the X, Y or Z buttons. If you only have a three button controller, press the start button to swap between attacks and items.

Before you can fight Fang Tu, you must defeat his three warlords. Each warlord is protected by two bodyguards, who you'll have to fight one at a time. Defeating one body guard will let you fight the next one, and then beating them will have the warlord challenge you himself. You can leave a fight by pressing the A and B buttons together, and the game also lets you save your progress so you don't have to start from the beginning every time you play.

Trivia

This game, like the SEGA CD version, comes on two discs.

There are several easter eggs in the game. To see them requires you to perform certain actions during a fight. For a detailed look at how to do them, watch this video by CreepingTaffer Gaming.
