At an airport, a young Yuria looks up into the sky. She is meant to be getting onto a plane with her brother Ryuuga and her guardian, Dama. However she is just stood in the middle of a room, looking up. Dama notices that she isn't moving...
...and she then suddenly runs off. Ryuuga goes after her as Dama asks the flight attendant if she can delay the flight, as he has a bad feeling about this. He then follows Yuria as Ryuuga heads outside to try and find his sister.
He finds her cowering in a corner, so he says it's alright and as her brother, she can tell him anything. However as she is mute she doesn't speak a word, and they both see that the plane they were meant to be on has taken off. As it leaves the runway Yuria suddenly gets even more fearful.
And suddenly one of the plane's engines explodes! This sets off a chain reaction that results in the entire plane blowing up and crashing near to the airport. Whilst everyone else there is in shock, Dama and Ryuuga aren't as Yuria has apparently been able to sense things like this before. Ryuuga says that she has had another message from heaven whilst, Dama tries to comfort her. He says that it isn't her fault this happened, and that she mustn't fear her gift. She has it for a reason, and one day she will know why. Until then, he will protect her.
SHIN KYŪSEISHU DENSETSU - HOKUTO NO KEN: YURIA DEN
(Legends of the True Savior - Fist of the North Star: Legend of Yuria)
At the Hokuto Shinken dojo, Master Ryuken watches his four students battle. Raoh is fighting Toki, whilst Jagi fights with Kenshiro.
Dama then arrives with Yuria. Ryuken says that he has been waiting for her arrival, but she says nothing. He then asks her what the name of the puppy she has with her is, but again she says nothing. He asks Dama if she is mute, but he says she isn't -she has just closed her heart off to others. Her parents died when she was very young. Ryuken says how sad that is, and then notices her watching the fights going on behind him. He says that these four boys are his sons, and they live with him here.
There is Raoh, the oldest one. Toki is his brother. Then there is also Jagi.
Before he can introduce Kenshiro, Yuria suddenly becomes fearful when she looks at Raoh. Her puppy, Tobi, also senses something, but rather than be frightened he becomes angry and leaps out of her hands. He goes up to Raoh and starts barking at him aggressively. Jagi wants the dog to shut up and goes to kick him...
...but Kenshiro gets in the way. He picks up Tobi and takes him back to Yuria. As Yuria takes Tobi off him, she smiles. Dama finds this incredible, but Ryuken tells him not to worry. She will one day open her heart.
Years later, Yuria has grown up and can now talk. And Tobi is still around too. She says that Tobi seems to be full of life today just as Ryuken appears and says Tobi is quite an amazing dog, as he hasn't appeared to have aged, whilst he has. And as he has become so old, the time for him to choose the successor to the Hokuto Shinken style has come. He says that after he chooses, each of his four sons will take different paths. He asks Yuria what she intends to do after he has chosen, and she says she will go with Kenshiro. Ryuken warns her that the path Kenshiro will take will be one of suffering, but she says that the heavens told her to take that path.
Ryuken still has a test for Raoh and Kenshiro. He sends out a tiger and tells them that it can sense their deadly intent. The tiger heads towards Kenshiro first, but he manages to get it to back off just by raising his hand.
The tiger then turns to Raoh and becomes extremely angry. The tiger strikes at him but before it hits, Raoh grabs it by the neck and decapitates it. Raoh tells Kenshiro that when the tiger faced him, it didn't even see him as an enemy. He doesn't even deserve to be his rival in being the successor to Hokuto Shinken.
Raoh tosses the head of the tiger away and then walks out. However Ryuken believes that Kenshiro is the stronger of the two, as when the tiger faced him it didn't dare to attack. The only reason it tried to attack Raoh was because it felt the fear of death. Sometime later, Raoh and Toki are meditating.
Jagi suddenly bursts in and says that Kenshiro has been chosen as the successor to Hokuto Shinken. He is disgusted with this as he thinks Kenshiro is the weakest of them all, and there is no way he should have been chosen. He's also heard that the ones who fail to become the successor either have their fists shattered or their memories erased, so they can no longer practice the style! He then runs off. Toki says that Jagi must want to kill Kenshiro, but Raoh says that he isn't skilled enough to do that. However, Kenshiro won't kill him either due to his sensitivity. Raoh believes that Ryuken chose poorly, and that this is the end for the Hokuto Shinken style.
Jagi has indeed gone straight over to where Kenshiro is, but rather than kill him straight away, he tells him to go to Ryuken. He should go to Ryuken and tell him that he doesn't want to be the successor. He says he finds it a joke Ryuken chose him over everyone else. Ken asks why Jagi has to use a gun and why he doesn't rely solely on his fists, but Jagi starts beating him with it, and that it doesn't matter how you win, as long as you do. Ken tells him that is enough and starts to walk away, but Jagi gets even angrier and threatens to shoot him.
Kenshiro spins around and hits Jagi repeatedly, causing him to drop his gun. He gets sent flying into a wall, where the effect of Kenshiro's attack takes place. Jagi's head begins to bulge and his hair rips out. Kenshiro jumps over to where he is and stands over him.
Kenshiro comes close to finishing him off, but before doing so his fist stops just in front of Jagi's face. Ken tells Jagi that he should just leave and forget about Hokuto Shinken. He clearly wasn't good enough to be the successor. Jagi gets up and tells him that was the only chance he had in killing him. He runs away, saying that he will have his revenge one day by taking Kenshiro's life.
