Toki leads Kenshiro, Bat and Lin up a small hill. Bat doesn't like the place but Kenshiro says that for Toki and Raoh, this is a place of beginning for them. This was where they took their first steps with Hokuto Shinken. They then turn around and see that Raoh has also arrived.
Raoh gets off his horse, removes his helmet and cape and tells Toki that the time to fulfil their promise is now. Toki says Raoh will not be the savior in this new age, and tells his brother that he won't back down now. As the two charge up their touki (aura), the place shakes. Raoh says that he sees Toki as his enemy now, and then charges.
Toki does the same. As the two clash in the middle of the arena, there is a large explosion due to the colliding forces.
SHIN KYŪSEISHU DENSETSU - HOKUTO NO KEN: TOKI DEN
(Legends of the True Savior - Fist of the North Star: Legend of Toki)
Years before the above scene, Toki is seen practicing his Hokuto Hyakuretsu Ken technique. Not far from him, Kenshiro and Yuria are watching. Yuria comments on how graceful Toki's movements are, but Kenshiro explains to her that his strikes are also extremely accurate and if he was striking at pressure points on a person, he would hit them all perfectly.
But Raoh then comes across and says that Toki may be graceful, but he's also fragile compared to him. He believes there is no way Toki can harm him. Toki hears everything his brother has said but chooses not to do anything. Raoh then states that having sheer strength is the best way to utilize the Hokuto Shinken style, and he then walks away. Ken tells Yuria that the fight in becoming the successor to the style between Raoh and Toki has become intense.
Toki tells Kenshiro that he is also in this fight, but Ken says that if he is chosen to become the successor he will immediately refuse it and pass it on to Toki. He doesn't believe that he is on the same level as him. He heard that Ryuken was allowed to become the successor after the one competing with him withdrew, so therefore succession between "brothers" is allowed. Later on, Ryuken is seen praying in his dojo when he hears someone enter the room. It is Sara, who wants to talk to Ryuken about Toki.
What Sara has to say isn't good news however: she reveals to Ryuken that Toki is very ill, with a life threatening disease. He only has a few years left to live. Ryuken doesn't doubt her because she is a doctor herself. Toki knows that he has this disease also. Ryuken stands up and wonders what to do now, as Kenshiro has said he won't accept if he is chosen to become the successor. Sara says that Hokuto Shinken will be finished if Raoh was chosen. Ryuken asks Sara to look after Toki, and then leaves the room.
As day turns to night, Ryuken asks Toki what he thinks of the current political situation in the country neighboring their own. Apparently things have been getting serious recently and both Toki and Ryuken believe that there is a strong possibility of nuclear missiles being used. If that happens, the world will be engulfed in flames, and what is left will be ruled by violence. Toki thinks that this cannot be avoided. Ryuken tells Toki that the successor to Hokuto Shinken's mission is to bring peace in violent times.
Ryuken then asks if Toki knows what he will do in this upcoming new age. Toki just says that this new era will need a savior, and he will protect him with his body and soul. Ryuken is taken aback by this, but he realises Toki has made up his mind. He thinks to himself that if Toki wasn't sick, then he would have chosen him to become the successor without a doubt.
Sometime later, what Ryuken and Toki were talking about actually happened. The start of a nuclear war resulted in millions of people being wiped out in an instant.
Countries are destroyed, technology was obliterated and the oceans dried up. It didn't all happen at once though, and those fortunate to find out about the nuclear war before it hit their own country went out to find the shelters that would protect them before it was too late. Whilst this was going on, any military power still standing was still launching missiles.
The city Toki, Kenshiro and Yuria are in was already badly damaged, but the weapons used against it thankfully weren't of the nuclear type. The three of them run to the nearest shelter and as Ken and Yuria head into it, Toki turns around and sees three missiles head down and explode not that far away. However he can tell that these are the dreaded nuclear weapons, and there is a huge explosion that is heading their way. He runs down after Ken and Yuria...
...only to find that the shelter is almost full and barely has any more room in it. Without hesitating, Toki shoves Kenshiro and Yuria into the shelter as the door begins to lock. He tells Ken to look after Yuria.
Kenshiro tries to open the door, but Yuria tells him to stop as it is too late, and there are a lot of people down here. They will all die if he opens it. Kenshiro can do nothing but wait until it is safe to open up the door.
