Head as far right as you can go, and you'll see three mines on the floor. The most basic Mad Gears will come on first, try to keep them to the left. You'll want to try and keep the mines from exploding for now, as once the first three Mad Gears have been defeated, more powerful gang members will come on. Make use of the mines to defeat them more easily. Move right and you'll get to the entrance, where the are three more mines. Take out the first group of Mad Gears you see, but try to keep the mines from exploding.
Defeat them and you'll have to fight Robert and two Leons next. Don't use the mines next, because once one of them has been dealt with, a very strong Andore Jr will come on. You'll want to make use of the mines to do some big damage to him, so keep throwing him over to the right side of the screen to get him to step on the mines. You'll then arrive at some gardens, the first enemies you'll face are Elias and two Elicks.
Defeat them, and then Atlas, Jack and Elijah will come on. All of the enemies now have lots of health, and once this group has been defeated, you'll then have to fight Andore, Atlas and Mic. When you defeat one of these, Elick will come on. Defeat them all and you'll finally be able to move on, but before you can move up, more Mad Gears arrive, Bull, Schot and Robert are up first.
Defeat them and then Elick, Elijah and Atlas will come on. Once they've been beaten, you can move up, then head right. You'll fight some basic Mad Gears here, but then some stronger ones will come on, like Andore Jr.
Once they've been defeated, you'll be able to move down, where you'll have to fight Eliot, Elick and Atlas. After they've been dealt with, Andore and Andore Jr will come on. Defeat them and you will be able to move on right, where you'll have to fight several Leons and Roberts.
Grandpa Andore is the last Mad Gear you'll have to fight outside. Once he's beaten, you'll jump up and then walk inside the Mad Gear's hideout. There is a barrel to break open, hopefully it'll have something useful inside it (sometimes it has nothing!). Defeat Elias and the two Eliots who come on here.
You'll then have to fight Jony, Atlas and several of their clones. They all have a lot of health, so use lots of jump attacks to stop them from grabbing you. Move right and fight some more basic Mad Gears, once they've been defeated, a few Elicks will come on. Beat them up and head right, where you will see some stairs. Before you can go on, there are several more Mad Gears to beat up, including Atlas and Robert.
There are a lot of enemies here, so keep throwing them into each other. Once you head up the stairs, you'll face off against Elick, Eliot and Elias. Once they've been defeated, several Joes will come on, and will throw molotov cocktails. If you stay at the bottom of the screen you tend to be safe down there, and the Joes are pretty good at taking each other out.
Head right to find a barrel. Break it open and then fight Leon, Elick and Andore Jr. There are a few more Elicks to deal with here, once they've been beaten, move right to find a wall, a barrel and some samurai armor. The barrel should hopefully contain a much needed health item. You'll have to fight some basic Mad Gears first, but then Andore, Grandpa Andore and Atlas will come on.
Defeat them and you'll punch part of the wall, revealing a hidden passage behind it. You will then walk into a room, where a shadowy figure reveals himself: Retu!
Retu has two main attacks. The first is his hurricane kick, which has him spin around and can cover a short distance. He will also sometimes leap up very high into the air, and come down whilst doing the hurricane kick, so move away from him if that happens. His other attack is a powerful punch, which he'll only tend to use if he's close to you. He hops around a lot to move, so try to attack him from above or below.
Surprisingly he's not actually that difficult to defeat. He doesn't have many attacks, and he gets no backup from his gang. It's difficult to grab him, so stick to doing combos or jumping attacks. The fight can take a while simply because he has so much health. Once he's taken enough damage, he tends to stay on the right side of the room, and will keep using his hurricane kick a lot. Time your combos or jump attacks to hit him after he uses his hurricane kick. Once he's defeated, he'll be sent flying out of the building, and will fall to his death.
