Threads

Threads is a BBC drama about nuclear war that was originally released in 1984. The moment the bombs start to drop and the facts about what would happen to the UK keep popping up is the moment you realise how completely hopeless things would be if this really did happen. Some of the images will stick in my mind forever, such as the hospital scene and the scene near the end, set 10 years or so after the attack, showing children unable to speak English properly and getting shot when trying to steal food. An absolutely terrifying film, I cannot give it any higher recommendation. Watch Threads.
