Malibu Comics were given the rights to make a Street Fighter comic in 1993, were able to publish just three issues before it was cancelled. The plot takes place after the events of the first game, and has all of the characters from Street Fighter II': Hyper Fighting make an appearance at some point. As only three issues were released, not much can be said about the plot. Ryu continue to train, whilst Ken has retired from fighting. Sagat, who has joined Shadaloo, has a confrontation with Ken, and seemingly kills him. When Ryu and the other Street Fighters learn of this, they vow to avenge him. Meanwhile Bison poisons Ryu and Ken's master, Sheng Long. Nida, a new character who wasn't in the games, wants to defeat Ryu -who she mistakenly believes is the one who poisoned Sheng Long, who she'd hoped to learn shotakan karate from.

The final issue contained an epilogue, which talked about the plans Malibu had for the characters. It reveals that Ken would have actually survived, whilst Bison had made a "deal with dark forces to create evil twins of every Street Fighter". This explains why Nida thinks Ryu poisoned Sheng Long. Oddly, this evil twin plot sounds a lot like a story from Masaomi Kanzaki's Street Fighter II manga, although this was almost definitely just a coincidence.

The epilogue stated the reason why the comic was cancelled was "due to complications with Capcom and their dislike of our adaptation". However a new potential reason was discovered in the fourth chapter of Polygon's Street Fighter II: An Oral History series. Acclaim, who were publishing the console versions of Mortal Kombat, bought a ton of advertising space in Malibu's Street Fighter comic, in revenge for this ad. It could have been that Capcom were not happy with the idea that the comic contained so many ads for their main competitor.

If you want to read them for yourself, the three issues of the comic frequently appear on eBay, and generally don't tend to sell for much. All three issues were collected into a single volume, under the name of Street Fighter: The Graphic Novel, although this sells at higher prices.
