Super Street Fighter II Turbo is the fifth entry in the series, released in 1994. It was another major update as not only was the game faster, it also had many new features. It is seen as the pinnacle of the series and one of the greatest fighting games of all time. Every character from the previous game returned, each one having new moves and techniques. Super combos were introduced in this game, and let you do powerful combo moves. Akuma also made his debut in this game.

Despite all the improvements, the game was met with a lukewarm response in everywhere but Japan when it was released. Many people who had played the previous games were getting bored with Street Fighter II, and it also didn't help that the competition Capcom had to deal with was fiercer than ever in 1994. SNK had started their King of Fighters series with KoF '94, but their major hit title was Samurai Shodown II. 3D fighting games were also becoming more and more popular, with SEGA's Virtua Fighter 2 and Namco's Tekken also being released in 1994.

That said, the game was still very popular in Japan and has since gone on to gain popularity elsewhere in the world, with most seeing it as the best game in the Street Fighter II series. It is still used in fighting game tournaments to this day.
