The Japanese title is "Rushing Beat Shura" whilst the American version is "The Peace Keepers". The Japanese version also features Jaleco's logo on the title screen and has a different copyright year date.

Some of the options have different names between versions. One of the most ridiculous changes made to The Peace Keepers is that you have an option for either BGM (background music) or BGS (background sounds), with the latter not having any music played during the game at all. Even worse, several tracks were removed from the American version, so great tunes like this one are gone.

Both games have a color edit mode, but the Japanese version also lets you change the names of characters. This feature was removed from the American version.

The character portraits were changed between versions. Just about every character in the game were also given new names for The Peace Keepers.

More name changes. Prokop also has a different head than Jimmy and also has different colors. One other minor change is the fact that player 2's highlighted character faces left in the Japanese version and right in the American version.

There are 2 hidden characters in the game. Norton is a character who appeared in the previous two games -in the American versions, he was called Flak in the first one and Hack in the second, but he's now Norton in The Peace Keepers, keeping the same name as in the Japanese version. The other hidden character is a robot. The robot's name is M-Frame in the Japanese version. The American version changes his name to Orbot.

Bild makes a hidden cameo in the game. He's white in the Japanese version and black in the American release.

All of the super attacks were changed for the American version. In the Japanese version, Dick uses an attack called the "Dragon Wave", where two dragons appear on the screen. The American version changes this attack so Flynn shocks his enemies in a lightning storm.

Elfin's super attack has her summon several birds which fly across the screen, and the technique is called the "Bird Storm". The American version has Echo scream instead.

Kythring's attack is called the "Assault Tiger" and has a large tiger sprite appear. This was changed to Al's super having him summon a tornado.

Finally Jimmy's super move is the "Thunder Edge". For the American version, Prokop just stomps the floor a few times.

NOTES

-The Japanese version gives you 30 credits to beat the game with, but the American version cuts the amount of credits to just 12.

-The American version does not really attempt to translate the Japanese version at all, resulting in completely different dialogue for the cutscenes. They basically made up a new script for the English version rather than use a translated version of the Japanese one. An example of this can be seen above -in the Japanese version, Bild's cameo has him mention Norton. The American version has him talk about him being too busy to help because he's writing his new autobiography! Thanks to jonny2x4 for this info.
