After the success of X-Men: Children of the Atom, Capcom released a sequel. 1995 saw the release of Marvel Super Heroes in arcades, which was once again a 2D one on one fighter, but now featuring Marvel characters outside of X-Men. Based loosely on the Infinity Gauntlet storyline, the game featured some of the other famous Marvel heroes like Iron Man and Captain America.

Like the previous game, this runs on the CPS-2 hardware and looks even more spectacular with the character sprites being wonderfully animated. There were some complaints that the character roster was small and that some of the fighters were obscure (not many know who Shuma-Gorath is), but I prefer the cast in this game as I'd rather play as Spider-Man than Colossus and would take Magneto over Silver Samurai any day. The gameplay was also improved upon, with the introduction of the infinity gems. These gems could give your fighter different powers for a brief amount of time. Taunts were also available for all characters.

Despite the apparent success the arcade version had, it took Capcom until 1997 to release home ports, for the Playstation and Saturn. However both of these ports were flawed, with lots of slowdown. In 2012, Marvel Vs. Capcom Origins was released, which contained two games: Marvel Super Heroes and Marvel Vs. Capcom. This collection was the best way to play this game on console, but sadly it got delisted for both formats.
