Hellsing

Hellsing is a 13 episode anime series which originally aired in Japan between 2001 and 2002. The series is an adaptation of Kohta Hirano's Hellsing manga, however it largely ignores much of the manga's story due to not much of it being published by the time the series went into production. Whilst some of the manga's stories are adapted, a lot of original material was created, including several characters who only appear in the anime. Hellsing Ultimate is a much more faithful adaptation of the manga.

TV broadcast vs. DVD

TV broadcast
DVD

When the series was released on DVD, extensive edits were made to many shots when compared to the original TV broadcast. These edits generally made the art style more consistent across all episodes, fixing some off-model characters along with upping the on-screen violence. In some countries, the DVD versions of the episodes were aired on TV in favor of what originally aired on Japanese TV. For some shots more frames of animation were added, probably the most notable example of this is the intro. One of the more stranger changes is in episode 10, in the TV broadcast version the reason one of Laura's eyes is covered up by her hair for the most part is because her right eye is deformed and much larger than her left one. For some reason her right eye looks normal in the DVD version.
