In the vast, great universe, there is a planet called Cybertron. On this planet, there are many super robot life forms known as Transformers. However, for many years, the Transformers split into two factions: the good Cybertrons and the evil Destrons. A war started between the two sides, and their fighting exhausted the planet's energy.

Looking for new sources of energy, some Cybertrons and Destrons ended up crashing onto Earth. Four million years later, they were awakened and their war continued. One day, Megatron, the leader of the Destrons, attacked the Cybertrons.

The leader of the Cybertrons, Convoy, was shot and killed in battle. A young warrior called Rodimus became the new leader, and became known as Rodimus Convoy.

Meanwhile, at the same time, Megatron was severely damaged in battle, but was powered up and became Galvatron. The war continued from Earth back to Cybertron, but the Cybertrons eventually reclaimed their homeworld and forced the Destrons off it.

But, in the year 2010, the "Emperor of Destruction", Galvatron, returned with all of the other Destrons and another war started. However, Convoy was revived, and he decided to make a second defensive base for the Cybertrons.

The base was created on a planet called Athenia, which was close to Cybertron. Meanwhile, Galvatron and the Destrons still had a base on the planet Jaar, and they continued to upgrade and construct it to make it bigger and better than before.

(And so, the year is now 2011)

At Cybertron, things seem peaceful, but, at Laserwave's old base of operations, there is activity -the Destrons have appeared! Ever since Convoy was resurrected, and released the Matrix's energy and wisdom, Vector Sigma, Cybertron's mother computer, has returned to a neutral state of balance. The Destrons have used this to their advantage and gotten onto the planet without alerting any of the Cybertrons.

Galvatron tells the other Deceptions with him about this fact, and how they must take over Vector Sigma to ultimately take over the planet itself. The Destron Headmasters -Weirdwolf, Mindwipe and Skullcruncher -want to go out and complete this task for their leader.

Galvatron says Weirdwolf has overstepped the mark -he's just a new Headmaster, there's nothing special about him or his group. Weirdwolf says he wants to show Galvatron the power of the Headmaster, and he and his two friends smash out of the ceiling. Galvatron thinks that Weirdwolf would never be able to impress him, but never mind. He tells the remaining Destrons that they will go and strike down the Cybertrons.

CYBERTRON BASE

Inside the base, Spike and Carly are enjoying some tea when suddenly, everything begins to shake. They are under attack! Rushing into a control room, Wreck-Gar and Chear are observing video footage which reveals that the Destrons are attacking. Spike immediately gets into contact with Athenia, whilst Wreck-Gar tells the Dinobots to get out there and start fighting back.

ATHENIA

In the base, Convoy has found out about the Destron attack and wonders how the Destrons managed to get onto Cybertron so easily. Hound suggests that there has been some kind of problem with Vector Sigma, as a result of the released Matrix energy. Convoy is worried that they'll be in a lot of trouble if the Destrons take over Vector Sigma.

Hound says that his theory is just a guess, but Rodimus thinks he could be right. Before there can be any more talk on the matter, Spike gets into contact with them and asks for more reinforcements to be sent, as the Destron's attack is strong. Convoy tells Meister to get more troops sent from Earth, and tells Spike to leave Cybertron and to come to Athenia. He then tells Rodimus that he intends to go to Cybertron with Meister, so he'll need to take charge here.

Back on Cybertron, Weirdwolf's power play isn't going well, as he and the other Headmasters get blasted. Galvatron wants to know what they are doing, they're suppose to be destroying the Cybertrons. Mindwipe turns things around for them by using a strange technique he has. Putting his hands together, he sends out some kind of spell...

...which somehow puts other robots to sleep! Mindwipe asks them how they like his hypnotism, when he sees that Skullcruncher seems to be out for the count also. Galvatron sees him and says that he isn't suppose to be effected by the hypnotism!

"...you idiot!"

Back on Cybertron, Spike is looking at Vector Sigma and believes that they need to control it. The computer is now at a neutral balance, hence why the Destrons have invaded. If the Destrons took over Vector Sigma...Chear tells him that Convoy is on his way, and they won't let that happen. Wreck-Gar then comes in and tells Chear they need to reorganize their forces, at some Destrons are attacking the space bridge.

On Earth, the reinforcements heading to Cybertron have been blocked off by a Destron squad. A huge firefight breaks out between the two sides, but the Cybertrons manage to blast a few Destrons back. But then, another Destron appears and tells the Cybertrons to try and take him on.

DESTRON NINJA STAFF OFFICER

SIXSHOT

Sixshot says they don't have any hope against him, whilst Ultra Magnus tells him who he is and that they're equally matched. Sixshot thinks he is talking too big and the two sides resume firing. Not far away from the battle, Daniel and Wheelie have decided they need to get to Cybertron, as Daniel wants to fix Vector Sigma. Wheelie suggests that they secretly get on one of the Trainbots and hitch a ride on them via the space bridge.

The two start to run towards Cybertron City, but come across a very large problem: Dinosaurer. He charges after them, but Wheelie gets an idea and leads Daniel across a bridge. As the two get halfway across, Wheelie taunts the Destron giant before running to the other side.

Dinosaurer, not being that bright, decides to follow them and steps on the bridge. The thing snaps apart instantly and Dinosaurer plummets into the river below. Wheelie says that he's smarter than the likes of Daniel. Daniel takes objection.

Meanwhile Ultra Magnus and Sixshot are fighting each other one on one away from the others, but Sixshot gets the upper hand and tries to tear his opponent's head off. Thankfully help is at hand, as the Trainbots have arrived on the battlefield.

Shouki, the leader of the Trainbots, kicks Sixshot off Ultra Magnus. He and his team -Getsuei, Kaen, Seizan, Suiken and Yukikaze -have come to help out and tell Ultra Magnus to follow them to Cybertron City immediately, so they can use the space bridge and get to Cybertron. Sixshot recovers and gets some of the Destrons nearby to give chase.

The Destrons ambush the Cybertrons, so Ultra Magnus tells the Trainbots to continue to their space bridge whilst he, Prowl and Lambor take on the Destrons. The Trainbots take off whilst the other Cybertrons fight back.

The Trainbots are chased by the Buildron, who manage to shoot them down, and another firefight between the two teams begins. It's a short fight however thanks to Metroflex showing up and blasting the Buildrons back, whilst giving the Trainbots a lift to Cybertron City.

Ultra Magnus, Prowl and Lambor manage to blast their Destron opponents back and head to Cybertron City. At the City, Metroflex arrives and the Trainbots immediately head to Cybertron via the space bridge. Wheelie fixes up Daniel's exo-suit and soon the two of them are also on the way to Cybertron.

On Cybertron, the fighting is getting worse. Convoy and Meister see that the Destrons are really putting up a fight, so the two of them split up. The Trainbots arrive to help out though and soon more reinforcements from Athenia arrive in the form of the Airbots and Triple-changers. Galvatron finds out and tells his Destrons to hurry, as they need to be the ones who control Vector Sigma.

Meanwhile Spike, Carly, Chear and Blurr have gone to Athenia. Chear is surprised that Convoy has gone to Cybertron, and he and Rodimus discuss how Convoy will not be able to fix Vector Sigma without the Matrix, which is currently being recharged in a location that only Convoy himself knows. Just then an alert siren is heard as something has been picked up on radar. Everyone sees that the blip on the radar is on a course for Cybertron.

Daniel and Wheelie are heading towards the entrance to Vector Sigma, only to run into Tantrum, one of the Animatrons. He chases Daniel, but Shouki shows up and blasts Tantrum before ramming into him. Shouki tells Daniel that this place is far too dangerous for him to be at and that he should return to Earth.

Back on Athenia, Spike is wondering what they should do, when Chear remembers something. Four million years a go, there was terrible fighting on Cybertron, as Megatron led his Destrons against Convoy's Cybertrons. Some Cybertrons decided to leave the planet rather than fight. Back in the present, Chear wonders if this will be repeated now. Spike tells him that it's no good thinking about the past, as it won't help them with their current problems.

Blurr breaks things up nicely by alerting everyone to the fact that they can now get a decent look at whatever it is the radar picked up earlier. It appears to be a ship of some kind but they have no idea if it's friend of foe. Leaving Chear in charge, Rodimus decides to head back to Cybertron.

Back on Cybertron, the fighting is getting more intense as the special teams combine into their various super robot forms, and soon the likes of Superion and Abominus are duking it out. Galvatron sees Convoy and fires, but the Cybertron leader dodges the shot. Meister tells Convoy to get to Vector Sigma, but Convoy doesn't want to leave Jazz by himself. Just then, the Cybertron Triple-changers -Sandstorm, Sprung and Broadside -show up.

They tell Convoy and Meister to go on, they can deal with things here. Convoy now finally has a chance to get to Vector Sigma, leaving the rest of the Cybertrons to keep fighting.

However a group of Destrons have already managed to get to the outside of the access way to Vector Sigma, and despite the efforts of the Throttlebots and Dinobots they are all put to sleep by Mindwipe's hypnosis, leaving it all clear for the Destrons to go through.

Galvatron shows up and praises Mindwipe before saying that they can now take Vector Sigma. Before they can enter, the giant ship that was picked up on Athenia's radar appears above them all, a ship known as Battleship Maximus.

Four Cybertrons jump out of the ship and transform -they are the Cybertron Headmasters. Weirdwolf recognises them and Galvatron demands to know who they are. From left to right there is Hardhead, Chromedome, Highbrow and Brainstorm.

Chromedome says it's time to finish this and challenges the Destron Headmasters to a battle, which they agree to. The episode ends with them squaring each other off whilst the narrator asks who are these new warriors?

NOTES

The recap at the start is very vague, such as not mentioning the Quintessons (who never show up in this series, allegedly because of some kind of argument between Hasbro and Floro Dery, who designed the Quintessons). The biggest deal is how Convoy dies -here he is shown to just be shot dead in a firefight, whilst those who have seen the 1986 movie know how he really died. The movie had not been released in Japan when this series was aired.

Planet Athenia is meant to be the same planet as featured in the season 3 (season 3 is known as Transformers 2010 in Japan) episode "Five Faces of Darkness, Part 1". In the Japanese dub of that episode, the planet was actually named. The weird thing is, in Transformers 2010, Athenia looked like this, in The Headmasters, it looks like this. I guess Grapple and Hoist have really been working overtime on it.

This episode has one of the largest cast of characters of any episode of any series of Transformers.
