Annet Meiya

Now 20 years old, Annet is still with her adoptive father Earnest, and goes with him on his travels around the world. Having sealed Hastur's power for herself, she has become a powerful sorceress, and has several new magic abilities at her disposal. She no longer uses boomerangs to fight with, instead, she is now equipped with gauntlets, which let her summon the "psycho sword". Annet finds herself caught up in a plot that regards her -or more specifically, her pendant. A target of both Zigfried and the evil Nexuses army, Annet works with Earnest and Kirke to confront Zigfried and stop him from carrying out his plan.

She also really wants to be romantically involved with Earnest, as seen a few times throughout the game. But he unfortunately never seems to want to talk about it -either he'll change the subject, or he just doesn't seem to understand what's she trying to talk about, as seen in the ending.

Annet's voice actress is Yūko Minaguchi. Yūko's other voice roles include Videl in Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Saturn in Sailor Moon S and Momiji in some of the Ninja Gaiden games, and the Dead or Alive series.

Earnest Evans

Whilst not actually playable, Earnest has a much bigger role in this game than he had in El Viento and appears in many of the cutscenes. He gets separated from Annet early on in the game, but comes back later to help her escape from Zigfried. He then accompanies her and helps her (sadly in cutscenes only) by distracting bad guys. Whilst he still uses his whip, his weapon of choice in this game seems to be a gun. Towards the end of the game he gets shot up by Zigfried, but thankfully he survives. He also seems to be completely clueless about Annet's feelings for him.

One oddity is that Earnest's age is listed as 30 in the manual, which is weird because in El Viento his age was listed as 31! Somehow he's gotten younger.

Kazuki Yao returns to voice Earnest. His other roles include Jack Levin in F-Zero: Legend of Falcon (check out Ragey's coverage of that here), Fei Long in Street Fighter II V and Franky in One Piece.

Zigfried

Whilst he was an ally to Annet and Earnest in the past, Zigfried is quite clearly a bad guy this time around, and intends to complete the plan he mentioned at the end of El Viento. Whilst he has allied himself with the Nexuses army, he really wants the Two-Faced Goddess Idol along with Annet's pendant, as by putting the two together he can use it to realize his dream: the destruction of humanity! Zigfried is often very mysterious, such as giving conflicting statements about whether or not he's the Zigfried his former allies knew, but he always remains calm and polite no matter what he's doing. Annet and Earnest wonder if he's even human any more, and it becomes clear that he isn't:

He's actually the "Dark God", Nyarlathotep! Nyarlathotep can take different human forms, as seen in the game where he goes from presenting himself to Annet as Richtenreich before changing to Zigfried. Nyarlathotep confronts Annet at the end of the game, but is defeated by her. When the ending starts, Nyarlathotep has changed back into Zigfried, but apparently Annet and the others didn't do anything with the body. Nyarlathotep/Zigfried revives and heads to Berlin, where he starts a new plan which involves Adolf Hitler carrying out his dream.

Zigfried is voiced by Ryō Horikawa (Nyarlathotep doesn't get any dialogue, and whilst he can scream, he uses the same generic yells as other enemies). Ryō's most famous voice role is Vegeta in Dragon Ball Z, some of his other notable roles include Andromeda Shun in Saint Seiya and Captain Falcon in the Super Smash Bros. series.

Kirke

Kirke is a Lieutenant in the army of Renvrandt, and is first seen asking Annet to go and meet Princess Aisha. However, he finds out the Princess is a fake, and that his superior, Virgilis, has allied himself with the Nexuses army. Not wanting to be a part of this, Kirke betrays him and helps Annet and Earnest. He's also in love with the Princess, and wants to save her no matter what. By the end of the game, Kirke becomes the Prime Minister of Renvrandt.

Kappei Yamaguchi provides Kirke's voice. Another big name voice actor who somehow made it into this game, some of his other roles include Inuyasha in the Inuyasha series, Ranma Saotome's male half in Ranma ½ and L in Death Note. He also provides the voice of Crash Bandicoot for the Japanese dubs of those games.

Fake Princess Aisha

As the real Princess was unwilling to co-operate with him, Virgilis has this fake one put in her place. Annet goes to see her without this knowledge, and once she gets Annet's pendant, she orders her guards to get rid of her. She's not seen in the game again after this, and it isn't clear at all as to who she even is, or what she even is. She's possibly in disguise, but could also be a clone that Zigfried had a part in making (as there is also a clone of Zigfried in the game). Somehow Kirke was able to get the pendant from her -as seen in the cutscene that takes place after level 3.

The fake Princess is voiced by Saeko Shimazu, who's other roles include Shinobu Miyake in Urusei Yatsura and Kodachi Kuno in Ranma ½.

Princess Aisha

The real Princess Aisha refused to give Virgilis the Two-Faced Goddess Idol, which resulted in her being imprisoned by him. She is found by Annet, who explains what's happened, but they are then both confronted by Virgilis. She is forced to watch Annet battle in a coliseum, and given a choice: co-operate with Virgilis, or Annet will die. However Annet defeats her opponents, and gets away thanks to Kirke helping her. This results in Virgilis handing over Aisha to Zigfried, who turns her into a monster. The monster form of Aisha is defeated by Annet, and she is then returned to normal thanks to the powers of the idol, and of Kirke's love for her. At the end of the game, she is crowned, and becomes the Queen of Renvrandt.

Aisha is voiced by Michie Tomizawa. Michie's other roles include Sailor Mars in Sailor Moon, Linna Yamazaki in Bubblegum Crisis and Roberta in Black Lagoon.

Richtenreich

Richtenreich is the leader of the Nexuses army, and also took over the European country of Dagrustein via his military, and his own charisma. He isn't seen much in the game, but appears in a cutscene were Zigfried reports to him. However, he reveals that he's not human, and starts to transform into what he calls his true form. He is also aware that Zigfried is Nyarlathotep.

What happens to him isn't clear, as he doesn't appear in the game again after this cutscene. He's later seen contacting Annet, but it turns our that it's actually Zigfried in disguise. This implies that, potentially, Richtenreich was killed off-screen by Zigfried/Nyarlathotep. Zigfried does state at one point that he hates the Nexuses, so killing off their leader when he had the chance is something he'd probably do.

Takaya Hashi voices Richtenreich. His other voice roles include Toki and Amiba in Fist of the North Star, Skull Face in Metal Gear Solid V and Gilliam II in Outlaw Star.

Virgilis

Virgilis is a Captain in the army of Renvrandt, but he allies himself with the Nexuses and wants to give away the Two-Faced Goddess idol to them. When the Princess refuses to do this, he has her imprisoned and has a fake one take her place. Things go downhill for him from this point, as Annet and Earnest arrive to ruin his plan. He attempts to have Annet killed, but this fails and she escapes. He's last seen in the game telling his soldiers to find Annet. It's later revealed that he gave the real Princess Aisha away to the Nexuses, which is how Zigfried got her.

Earnest mentions him during the game's ending, revealing that Virgilis and all of his followers have been rounded up, so his plan ended in failure.

His voice is provided by Banjō Ginga, who's roles include Souther in Fist of the North Star, Scorponok and Mega Zarak in The Transformers: The Headmasters and Liquid Snake in Metal Gear Solid.
