Hokuto no Ken 6

Hokuto no Ken 6 Gekitō Denshōken: Haō no Michi
-From Rage Quitter 87's Fist of the North Star site

After making a few RPG games, Toei tried something new with Hokuto no Ken 6, which was released in November of 1992. Again only available on the Super Famicom, and again only released in Japan, this game is a one on one fighter, a genre which had exploded in popularity at the time thanks to Capcom's Street Fighter II. Which most people would think was a good move, as making a Hokuto no Ken fighting game shouldn't be that hard to screw up, right? Sadly this is another poor game in the series, with choppy animation, lack of moves, dull colors, forgettable music and other problems.

Gameplay

The single player mode has you fighting against the rest of the cast (mirror matches are not possible without resorting to hacking). There are 8 different characters to choose from -Kenshiro, Heart, Rei, Souther, Raoh, Kuroyasha, Falco and Kaioh -each of which have several different basic moves, such as punches and kicks, along with some special techniques of their fighting styles. These special moves can only be performed when certain conditions are met, such as charging up the "TP" gauge (hold down the R button). Free Fight mode lets you pick a character then choose any opponent to fight, and a two player vs option is also present.

Whilst a Hokuto no Ken fighting game was a great idea, Hokuto no Ken 6 was executed terribly, and is a total embarrassment when compared to the Super Famicom port of Street Fighter II, which had been released earlier on in 1992. The next game sadly also fails to get it right, and it would be over a decade until anyone did it justice.

Play through the single player mode without using any continues to fight something which refers to itself as the title above, but is actually a simple gray palette-swap of Kenshiro's sprite.
