Kaioh takes Lin to a favorite place of his. The fog clears and he throws Lin to the ground, telling her that this place is known as Mashou lake. It is the place where he became evil. Whenever he stands here, his body and soul become fully devoted to evil. He believes that evil is the strongest power.

Calling on one of his spells, Kaioh seems to receive energy from the lake itself, and it greatly boosts his terrible demon aura.

He also knows someone else is watching and blasts some rock to reveal Kuroyasha, who has been watching the whole time. He takes a hit, but Kaioh lets him live and tells him to go to Kenshiro and tell him that Hokuto Shinken is not a threat to him.

Meanwhile Kenshiro and Leia have made a grave for Shachi. Kuroyasha then appears and despite his injuries he says he will be alright. He tells Ken that Kaioh has taken Lin to a place known as Mashou lake. He has also made his matouki even stronger. Kenshiro doesn't care though and he knows he must face and defeat Kaioh, so he starts to set off.

Before he gets that far Leia brings Shachi's shoulder pad and gives it to him. He puts it on and then continues to walk away, promising both Leia and Kuroyasha that he will return. He reaches a river and sees a boat, which he uses to head towards the lake.

Soon he reaches where Kaioh and Lin are. As he leaps off the boat and lands near to them, Kaioh says that the Hokuto seal may have been lifted, but it still doesn't matter. He then cracks open his own helmet...

...and reveals his face to Kenshiro for the first time. Kenshiro sees the resemblance and correctly states that he must be Raoh's brother. Kaioh starts to ramble on again about how love is useless and how evil is superior. Kenshiro asks why he hates love so much and Kaioh points out a small structure in the lake. It is a tomb for his mother, who died a long time a go. And the reason why she died is all Kenshiro and Hyo's fault!

Many years a go, Raoh was training whilst Kaioh was petting his dog, Ryu. Kaioh asks Raoh if he really believes in master Jukei's teaching, about how they must live and die for Hokuto Soukei. If he was like Ryu, he would happily live for his master. But Kaioh isn't a dog and he doesn't want to die for something he isn't part of. Suddenly they hear an explosion and see that their home is on fire! They run back towards it.

They find that many of the villagers have survived and as they reach the top, where a palace is, they find their mother. She has Toki with her, but then they find out that Kenshiro and Hyo are still inside the burning building. She soaks herself with water and tells her three sons that she will go inside and save them. Kaioh begs her not to as they aren't her own children and there is nothing she can do for them now, but she tells him that this is the fate of those who server Hokuto Soukei. She runs inside.

Raoh and Toki had to stop Kaioh from trying to go after her as the building began to crumble. Hours later, after the fire had finally died down, Kaioh and Raoh went inside the ruins to try and find their mother. Ryu started to bark at a fallen door and as Kaioh and Raoh lifted it up...

...and found that there mother had saved Kenshiro and Hyo, but at the cost of her own life. Days later, her funeral is held and Jukei says he had no idea such a tragic event would happen in his absence. Their mother was a loving person, and they will have a great ceremony for her.

Kaioh doesn't care for the ceremony as it won't bring his mother back. He believes she has been a victim of Hokuto Soukei. Later that night he and Raoh head back to where his mother's body is and he gets her out. He doesn't want her to be buried here, where all these Hokuto Soukei worshipping fools are. He and Raoh take her away.

Later on they arrive at lake Mashou and starts to dig to make space for their mother's body. After a while there is enough room for her and she is soon covered up again. However, Kaioh has had enough with Hokuto Soukei. His mother had died for it out of love, so he decides that he would obliterate love from his life. He wanted revenge for her pointless death and he was determined to not have love get in his way. The only alternative to love, in his mind, was evil.

Ryu runs up to Kaioh and rubs against his leg, so Kaioh told him to shut up and the kicked him out of the way. It was time for him to give away love and emotion and as his eyes turned red, Kaioh causes the ground around him to tremble.

The rock Ryu was on crumbles and he falls into the water and gets swept away by the current. Raoh wants to save him but Kaioh stops him. They watch Ryu float away to his death, but this is the first step in Kaioh's goal. He no longer wants to feel emotion like love for his mother and for his dog, and he stabs himself in the leg to do away with such memories of them.

Back in the present, Kaioh explains that love is pointless. Lin tells him that he is wrong and that his heart is clearly lost in love, so why does he hate is so much? Love will never die out as he wants it to. Kaioh shows her the back of his hand for such comments.

Ken says he will fight for love and Kaioh starts to attack him. He says that Raoh was dragged down due to his emotions, and that was why he lost. But he won't follow the same path and throws a projectile at Kenshiro. Ken uses the Musou Tensei technique to avoid it, but Kaioh counters it in the same way he did last time. But as he goes to punch Kenshiro, his opponent seems to warp through him several times.

Kaioh takes several light strikes all over him, as Kenshiro appears next to Lin. Ken tells him that he has improved the technique, so Kaioh cannot counter it so easily. Kaioh says that as long as he tries to protect Lin he won't be able to fight properly and he charges, but Ken hits him in the face.

Kaioh crashes into a wall and he sees the spirit of Raoh behind Ken. Kenshiro tells him that that punch came from one of Raoh's fists. As Kaioh gets back up, he whistles and Hayabusamaru charges at Ken.

Ken grabs Lin and jumps up to avoid the horse, but this gives Kaioh the chance to blast him. Ken crashes into the side of a cliff and loses his grip on Lin, and whilst he lands on a ledge, Lin slides down the cliff...

...and is grabbed by Kaioh. He tells Kenshiro that the feelings he has for Lin could be fatal. Now he will show him the extent that love can damage a man. She tells Lin to take a good look at Kenshiro as this will be the last time she'll ever see him. He knows that Lin loves Kenshiro, but now he'll take that love away.

And Kaioh suddenly yells out "Hokuto Ryuuken, Shinkanhaku!"and hits a pressure point on Lin's back! She weakly cries out for Ken and says that everything is disappearing, but she then loses consciousness.

Lin isn't dead -but Kaioh has a better fate for her. When Lin wakes up, she will have lost her memories and the first person she sees will be the one who she devotes her love to! He puts her on his horse and sends her away. It doesn't matter how bad the person is who Lin lays her eyes on, she will still love him. Kenshiro runs after Hayabusamaru and jumps towards the horse, but...

...Kaioh kicks him to the ground. Kaioh asks if he understands now how useless and weak love is, and how evil is the only way to get past such emotions. Kenshiro can't get to Lin now and as he gets up, Kaioh tells him that he won't know when Lin will wake -it could be in a few minutes, or it could be a year from now. He just knows she will wake up very easily. Kenshiro tells him he will not be forgiven. Kaioh says that he wants to kill the successor to Hokuto Shinken here and now.
