Debug menu

This debug menu code only works with the European version of the game. When the Capcom logo appears, hold down select and press start. The above screen should appear. The debug menu can be accessed in the other versions of the game, but only via Game Genie or Action Replay codes.

This menu lets you mess around with several features in the game, although it seems that not all of them actually work. I'll try and explain what each one does below.

RESERVED - 1
Doesn't appear to do anything.

L+R RECOVERY
Very useful. Simply press the L and R buttons together at any time to fill your life bar back up to the maximum.

TIME OVER DISP
A number will appear near the bottom right corner of the screen when playing through the game. However, if the game switches scenery, the number will disappear. You can bring it back by pausing and then un-pausing the game. The number will increase whenever slowdown occurs in the game.

X ENEMY CLASH
Press the X button to kill all enemies on screen, this also works on bosses!

SOUND TEST
Opens up a sound test in the options menu.

A2P TO FULL AUTO
This will make the CPU take control of both characters in the auto 2P mode.

EVERYTIME SUPER
Somewhat unsurprisingly, this lets you do your character's super move whenever you want, even if the super bar is empty.

0: MEM-DISP/1: C-EDIT
Not a clue what this does.

PAUSE DEBUG
Whenever you pause the game some numbers will appear in the center of the screen. These numbers show the game's build date. You can then play the game in slow motion just by pressing any button or direction on the d-pad. If you press select when the game is paused, lots of numbers will fill up the screen. These numbers represent the contents of the game's RAM. Press up or down to cycle through pages, and press select again to clear everything.

PAUSE NO DISPLAY
Whenever you pause the game, the word "PAUSE" will not appear on the screen.

END MARK
This just seems to add a black line across the screen which moves around as your play through the game. This indicates how much CPU time the game is currently using. The line disappears while the game is paused.

BGM CUT
No music will play in the game at all, only the sound effects will.

STAGE SELECT
Turn this on then go to the character select screen. Now hold down the L button and choose your character, and the level select screen will appear. Press the A button to change between map and list format. You can choose any part of any level, and there's even a extra "training room" where you can practice moves. Click here to see the complete version of the level select map. The stage select also lets you enter a small debug/test area, which is in part of the first round. In this area, keep breaking open the barrels to reveal every item in the game. The game's enemies will then start to appear, but only take one hit to kill. After you defeat them all the game will want you to move right, but you can't.

OPENING SELECT
Turn this on and then exit the debug screen by pressing start. Then, press the select button any time during the game's intro to get the opening select menu to appear. It allows you to view various cutscenes in the game, such as some ending scenes.

ANIMATION TEST
At the Capcom logo, hold R to get the logo animation to loop.

ENEMY FREE
Removes all enemies and breakable objects from the game, so you can just keep running from one area to the other until you get to the end. However, the game freezes once you get to where the final boss is.

At the bottom of the debug menu, there are some things listed under the heading of "set". If you press a button the controller, certain debug options will turn themselves on automatically:

Y: DEBUG
Turns "L+R recovery", "time over display", "x enemy clash", "sound test", "every time super", "pause debug", "stage select" and "sound test" on.

B: BG CHECK
Turns "x enemy clash", "sound test", "pause debug", "pause no display", "BGM cut", "stage select" and "enemy free" on.

X: FULL AUTO
Turns "time over display", "A2P to full auto" and "Pause debug" on.

A: TAKE A PICTURE
Turns "Every time Super", "Pause debug", "Pause no display", "BGM cut" and "Stage select" on.
