With Final Fight being a big hit in arcades, everyone was wondering when the game would be released for the 16 bit consoles. Capcom decided to release a port of Final Fight for the Super Nintendo, which was out in 1990 in Japan, with the USA getting it a year after that. Unfortunately, this port was a disappointment for many, purely because of how much stuff had been cut. Whilst the graphics and sound are impressive, the SNES version of Final Fight cuts the fourth level (the Industrial Area) completely. There are only two playable characters in this version, with Cody and Haggar making the cut, but Guy was left out. Cody and Haggar also use Guy's speech for some of their moves, but at a lower pitch for Haggar and a higher pitch for Cody. Whilst the graphics are impressive, the amount of sprites onscreen isn't (you'll only get about 3 enemies to fight at once), and there is some slow-down in certain sections. Perhaps the biggest omission from this port is a 2 player mode, it's strictly a single player experience.

The reason for all these cuts is believed to be down to Capcom having to rush the game, so it could be out in time for Christmas 1990 in Japan. They did just about make this (the release date was December 21st!), another popular reason is that the 8 meg cartridge size was simply not enough to get everything they wanted in. Hackers have found a lot of interesting things that go unused or are unfinished in this port, including remains of the cut Industrial Area, a battle mode and even a 2 player mode. Despite all of the faults, this version of Final Fight was the best scrolling beat 'em up you could get for the SNES at the time, and was easily better than any of U.S. Gold's computer ports. The game sold over a million copies, making it one of the most successful entries in the series sales wise. Here are a few extra things about this version:
